Short Bio:

Dr Antonios Avgoustinos is a geneticist - entomologist, Researcher at the Department of Plant Protection Patras (IIFC, ELGO-DEMETER). He has experience in genetic, molecular, and symbiotic analysis of insects of agricultural and medical importance. During the previous years he had been a Consultant and Professional Stuff in the Insect Pest Control Laboratory (IPCL) of the FAO/IAEA Joint Programme, with research related to the development, evaluation, and improvement of genetic sexing strains (GSS) for sterile insect technique (SIT) applications. He has been collaborating with IAEA through different CRP projects on the genetic aspects of SIT and similar techniques. He is currently collaborating with IAEA as Chief Scientific Investigator of a CRP focusing on Generic approach for the development of genetic sexing strains for SIT applications.
